Natureza Morta
During my wanderings in São Paulo cemeteries, I found tiny still life arrangements inside of small mausoleum structures that seemed to freeze time in peculiar ways. Framed photographs of the deceased are kept company by religious figurines, artificial flowers, and candles. Inside you can see both glimpses of love and full lives lived and also evidence of being forgotten.
Natureza morta, is Portuguese for still life, but the direct translation of those two words is "dead nature."
